Former President Donald Trump said "the worst is yet to come" if Vice President Kamala Harris is elected to lead the nation.

"You don’t have to image what a Kamala Harris administration would be because you’re living through it right now -- a nightmare,"Trump said Thursday during a news conference at his New Jersey golf club.

He said Harris, as well as President Joe Biden, are responsible for "horrific" inflation and high energy costs, adding that they are killing the American dream. He predicted it will only get even more grim if he doesn't win back the White House in November.

"Kamala's inflation nightmare continues to cost the average American family $1,100 every single month," he said.

Trump spoke for more than an hour during an event he held at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, while flanked by popular grocery store items as he highlighted the rising cost of food. He said consumers are feeling the impacts of higher prices.

"We're going to straighten it out," he vowed. "We're going to bring prices way down ... We're going to bring back the American dream."

After his speech, Trump took questions from reporters, with one asking about what his priorities will be if he is reelected.

“On day one, we’re going to do many things. You know, I can do a lot of things at one time."

He said closing the border is number one on his to-do list, adding that lowering energy costs is high on the list, too.

“Basically, we’re going to drill, baby, drill. We’re going to get energy prices down," he said, also noting he plans to "restore peace and stability throughout the world.”

Hours before the conference was slated to begin, Trump’s campaign leaders announced they were expanding his staff, bringing a number of former aides and outside advisers formally into the fold. Corey Lewandowski, Taylor Budowich, Alex Pfeiffer, Alex Bruesewitz and Tim Murtaugh will advise the campaign’s senior leadership.

Lewandowski was Trump's first campaign manager during his 2016 campaign. Budowich and Pfeiffer are moving over from MAGA Inc., a pro-Trump super PAC. Bruesewitz produces pro-Trump content for a large social media following. And Murtaugh was the communications director for Trump’s 2020 campaign.

Harris, meanwhile, is planning her own economic policy speech on Friday in North Carolina, as she is promising to push for a federal ban on price gouging on groceries.
