When Lewis Hamilton’s news of leaving Mercedes was announced, Toto Wolff claimed that his team was not in a hurry to choose a driver who would partner George Russell. However, the Austrian billionaire has indirectly considered signing Max Verstappen to the team.
Toto Wolff during the Spanish GP stated that Mercedes will not rush to choose a driver until autumn. He mentioned that they want to see what happens with Max Verstappen until autumn, as Wolff considers Verstappen as a potential driver for his team. Toto Wolff reckoned, the combination of a talented driver and a powerful car makes Verstappen a very tough competitor. That’s why Wolff said Mercedes always kept an option open to possibly have the Dutchman on their team. The 52-year-old acknowledged Verstappen’s skill and the advantage of his car, making him a significant figure in Formula 1.
That's why we always left the door open for him.Toto Wolff added.
Toto Wolff claims Max Verstappen has no reason to flirt with other teams
Red Bull mentioned that Max Verstappen often visits their factory and inquires about the development of their 2025 car. A reporter asked Wolff whether the teams should still consider Max Verstappen Including Mercedes or just give up. Wolff mentioned that, at the moment, there is no reason to believe the Dutchman would leave Red Bull. Verstappen’s involvement in the team’s future development and his current success with them indicate that he’s likely to stay where he is.
At the moment there is nothing to suggest that Max will leave Red BullToto Wolff stated.
Max Verstappen’s current car is considered the best in Formula 1, and he is far ahead in the championship standings. Wolff mentioned he has a strong chance of winning races and securing more titles with Red Bull. Verstappen is currently leading the drivers championship by almost 100 points, so it’s more likely for him to win. Given these advantages, there’s little reason for him to consider joining another team. He has everything he needs to succeed right where he is, so he wouldn’t risk moving to a different team that might not offer the same level of performance.
The car is still the benchmark, he is way ahead in the championship. So why should he flirt with another team?Toto Wolff added.
Certainly, Toto Wolff reckoned that it’s hard to consider Max Verstappen for 2025. However, there’s still hope for 2026, where all the regulations will change. Red Bull is currently lacking in the speed which has put them in a situation. Fans are eager to watch Red Bull dominate in the Hungarian GP, as Max Verstappen has already secured second position in FP2. There are strong chances of him getting the first place.
