WASHINGTON (TND) — Alabama Sen. KatieBritt said she loved that actorScarlett Johansson impersonated her on the most recent episode of "Saturday Night Live."
Britt, who gave the GOP response following President Joe Biden's State of the Union address, shared her sentiments with fellow politician Sen. Ted Cruz on Cruz's podcast "Verdict."
I actually was pretty pumped about that" said Britt told Cruz on Wednesday.During the podcast, Cruz said the media "demonized" Britt for her rebuttal. He criticized SNL for portraying Biden as happy-go-lucky, while mocking Britt.
As Johansson impersonates Britt in the cold open, she giggles and says she is a wife and mother, as well as "the craziest b*tch in the Target parking lot."
At one point, she pitches sales for the silver cross necklace she is wearing and acts "weirdly seductive for no apparent reason."
But Britt said she enjoyed every minute of it. In fact, she said it was "awesome."
I'll be honest with you, a bingo card of 2024 for Katie Britt, I did not have this on it and so certainly did not have Scarlett Johansson playing me," she said. "And I was trying -- we were talking to the kids about all of it and they were like, 'Oh, my gosh, mom.' ... And I said, you know, 'Look it could be worse.' I mean Scarlett Johansson -- here you have Black Widow -- they bring in someone from Avengers to play me in the cold open, I'm here for it."Cruz agreed, describing Johansson as "hot."
Scarlett Johansson is hot. I'm genuinely jealous because SNL has come after me a bunch of times," Cruz said. "They don't ever have Tom Cruise play me? How come you get a gorgeous movie star? That is a real compliment that you ought to be pretty psyched with."In her GOP rebuttal, Britt criticized Biden about the situation at the Southern border, crime, as well as high food prices. She also spoke of the death of Liken Riley, a 20-year-old nursing student who was recently killed by an illegal migrant.
Britt also used a harrowing account of a young woman's sexual abuse to attack Biden's border policies, but the rapes did not happen in the U.S. or during the Biden administration. She said she had met a woman at the U.S.-Mexico border who told of being raped thousands of times in a sex trafficking operation run by cartels, starting at age 12.
The victim has previously spoken publicly about the abuse happening in her home country of Mexico from 2004 to 2008. Yet, Britt used the account to chastise Biden's action on the border.
We wouldn't be OK with this happening in a third-world country. This is the United States of America, and it's past time we start acting like it," Britt said in her speech. "President Biden's border crisis is a disgrace.Still, Cruz praised Britt's GOP response. He told her she "kicked a** last week." Former President Donald Trump feels the same.
"Katie Britt was a GREAT contrast to an Angry, and obviously very Disturbed, 'President,'" Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social. "She was compassionate and caring, especially concerning Women and Women’s Issues. Her conversation on Migrant Crime was powerful and insightful. Great job Katie!"
Britt, who was elected in 2022, is the first woman to serve as a senator in Alabama. At 42 years old, she is also the youngest Republican woman ever elected to the U.S. Senate.
