He is known for his songs “U Can’t Touch This,” “2 Legit 2 Quit,” and “Pumps and a Bump,” and as an innovator of pop rap. He has also been billed as M.C. Hammer, Hammer, Hammerman, Hammertime, King Hammer, Kirk Burrell, K.B., and Holy Ghost Boy. He has also started a Christian ministry.

MC Hammer is the son of Betty (Henderson), a secretary, and Lewis Burrell, a professional poker player, gambling casino manager, and warehouse supervisor. He was raised in East Oakland. He is married to Stephanie, with whom he has five children.
