BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Bike Bars owners in Boise are upset that they will no longer be able to have alcohol on board.
Last week, the Boise City Council members voted in favor of an ordinance that would ban alcohol on the bicycle bars during their weekly meeting.
Mike Thomas, owner of Pedals and Pints, says he is frustrated.
"I'm angry, I think it's nonsensical," Thomas said. "I think it's a personal vendetta that the city council has against us."
Thomas says he is working with an attorney and plans to sue city leaders over their decision.
If it does not work out, he plans to focus on expanding this business to other areas in the Treasure Valley such as Meridian, Nampa, and Caldwell instead of Boise.
The issue was first brought up in an August work session, when the City Clerk's office gave a presentation on bike bars, citing complaints from businesses owners and residents. Among the complaints were loud noise, drunk and disorderly conduct and traffic impacts.
Councilmember Holli Woodings provided a brief comment, pointing out that they were voting on the ordinance that repeals the ability of bike bars to have alcohol on board.
Woodings also pointed out the ordinance also prohibits things like loud music in the downtown area.
“So hopefully we’ll have a little more peaceful environment in Downtown in the coming summer and still allow the bike bars to do pub crawls as usual.”
All councilmembers voted in favor of the resolution.
