PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — Coffee milk, that distinctly Rhode Island treat, is getting some national exposure.
Dunkin' unveiled its fall menu Wednesday with a latte influenced by Little Rhody.
It’s called the "Dunkalatte," a drink influenced by Rhode Island’s state drink, coffee milk.
The new Dunkalatte combines espresso with coffee milk.
The coffee milk itself is made with whole milk and Dunkin’s own coffee extract.
NBC 10 stopped by Dunkin's Smith Hill location to speak with several customers about the drink.
Customers like Jack Saribekian said it was solid.
"It's like coffee not to strong but it's good," said Saribekian.
It’s available now to Dunkin's customers across the country.
Customer Peter Palmer said it is a great way to connect the rest of the nation to Rhode Island.
"It's good so they get the experience of Little Rhody," said Palmer.
Dunkin told NBC 10 that Rhode Island has always had a special place in their hearts, and wanted to honor the rich tradition of this iconic coffee milk.
Chef Frank Terranova explained how coffee milk came to be in Rhode Island.
"They claim that the immigrants came here around the 1800s, quite a few Italians and they used to kind of do a mix mash of coffee and milk," said Terranova.
" It was a concoction-- that kind of stated the ball going."
